API-First

Architectural principle in which all functions of a platform are consistently provided via standardized interfaces (APIs).

API-First describes an approach in which interfaces are not added retrospectively, but are considered as a central architectural principle from the outset. In avanta, API-first means that all functions, data and processes are systematically accessible via clearly defined APIs. This approach is the basis for integration into complex IT landscapes and makes it possible to flexibly connect applications such as customer portals or ordering apps with ERP, PIM or eProcurement systems.

Typical functions

  • Standardized REST APIs
  • bidirectional data exchange
  • Extensibility without core system interventions
  • Connection of external applications and services

Advantages for B2B companies

API-First reduces integration effort, increases future-proofing and enables modular extensions. Companies can add new applications without destabilizing existing processes.

Differentiation from monolithic architecture

Monolithic systems couple functions closely together. API-First in avanta decouples applications and creates flexibility - especially in combination with ERP-First.

Practical example / industries

A packaging manufacturer integrates avanta into its existing IT landscape using an API-first approach and connects ERP, PIM and customer-specific configuration data centrally. Applications such as the B2B store and customer portal are implemented on this basis, in which individual packaging variants, customer-specific product ranges and pricing logic are provided. New applications and processes can be added step by step without changing existing integrations or business logic - even with increasing internationalization and a growing number of variants.
